The 23 men and women Chaplains, many of who braved a wicked winter storm, the Snowmaggedon, which shut down much of the Northeast United States, attended the training to learn how to care for others in the grief and grieving, caregiving services which are so much a part of today’s railroad industry.

President and COO Richard S. De Witt opened the nearly three-day conference and the railroad chaplains heard from three executive leaders from two railroad organizations.

Arlington Police Chaplain Harold Elliott spoke to the Chaplain leaders about proper death notification with the sessions being closed by Marketplace Founder, Chairman and CEO Gil A. Stricklin.

“These dedicated men and women are truly the best of the best who are willing to care for others in today’s railroad industry,” Stricklin said.

The conference concluded with the chaplains being awarded a Certificate of Completion for their rigorous training and being sent out to serve others in today’s railroad workplace.

Plano, Texas – February 1, 2010 —The Hope Center Foundation announced today that, with the addition of e3 Partners and I am Second, it has achieved full occupancy of its new Hope Center campus located in Plano.  Together with Josh McDowell Ministry, the Association of Christian Schools International, Marketplace Ministries, and nearly 40 other Christian nonprofit organizations, e3 Partners and I am Second are coming together to share resources and to participate in joint ministry ventures to further the cause of Christ all around the world.  The Hope Center Foundation’s ultimate goal is to create a setting that promotes synergy, financial stewardship, and global expansion among Christian ministries.

“We are thrilled to be moving into such a first-class facility as the Hope Center,” said e3 Partners President Curtis Hail. “Both our international church planting and I am Second outreaches will greatly benefit from our association with the Hope Center and the other ministries involved in the building.”

Although the idea for the Hope Center was conceived over a decade ago, planning for the 189,000-square-foot campus began in 2006.  The campus was modeled after a study of numerous, multi-tenant centers around the country—primarily in the secular nonprofit arena.  The Meadows Foundation in Dallas and the Jericho Center in Colorado Springs both provided inspiration for the Hope Center model.  However, in the Christian realm, the Hope Center is unique in purpose, size and scope.

Paul Nelson, former president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability says, “Many people have talked about creating a community of partnering organizations before,” he explains, “but it has truly become a reality at the Hope Center.”  When describing the structural design and size, Nelson says, “You have to see it to appreciate it.”

The ministry campus includes a chapel, conference center, atrium, café, bookstore, multiple broadcast studios, call center, fitness center, and postal facility for the ministry tenants.  The conference rooms, integrated telephone system, and fulfillment center are designed to minimize costs and increase opportunities for collaboration.

Haiti (MNN) ― The United States Military says it will have the Port-au-Prince, Haiti seaport open in two or three days. This could alleviate some of the bottleneck at the small international airport in the city. More than 30 countries have rushed relief to Haiti since the devastating earthquake, choking the airspace and the ramp at the small airfield, which has only one runway.

CEO of Global Aid Network (GAIN USA) Duane Zook has been on the ground since Friday in Port-au-Prince. He says aid coordination has been an issue, especially since the earthquake hit the downtown part of Port-au-Prince. “Much of the government structure is totally gone. That’s where the U.S. and others have come in to help figure out how to distribute the [aid] in a controlled environment so there’s not mass confusion. I think a lot of the governments and agencies are still trying to figure that out.”

However, Zook says, “One of the things we’re seeing is beginning points of hope as triage centers are being set up, as feeding centers are being set up.”

Zook says a container full of meals and other aid had been sent in case of an emergency weeks before the earthquake. So far, Zook says, “In three or four distribution centers, they were able to distribute 100,000 meals. That’s not a lot on the one hand, and yet it’s beginning to happen, and it’s beginning to happen through our church partners.”

Video and pictures are helping the world see the disaster the way it really is. It’s sensational footage because it’s a sensational story.

According to Zook, the people are doing what they can to survive. “One side of the two-lane highways are  actually closed off. People are laying out blankets and pads and so forth to sleep on. They are afraid to go back into their houses at night time in case they collapse, or else their houses are already destroyed.”

While food and water are in great demand, medicine and hygiene items are, too. Zook says the shipping container is meeting some immediate needs, but they’re also purchasing items in the Dominican Republic and driving them in to Haiti. GAIN is also planning on shipping in more containers as soon as the port opens.

In the midst of the tragedy, many are talking about God. Zook says, “People are questioning, and some people actually are asking, ‘How can a loving God love me when I’m going through a situation like this?’ Other people are actually driven toward God because they’re looking for hope.”

Zook observed that a number of churches were meeting Sunday. He says, however, that many congregations were much smaller. “Some of the people are still missing, and some have fled to the countryside. The rest were there, and I sensed a real joy in their dependence on God. But they’re hurting.”

Christians are being asked to fervently pray, give generously, and go help rebuild when the time is right. “I know everybody wants to jump on the next flight down here, but right now is not the time to do that. Down the road, that might happen. Right now, they just need orthopedic surgeons and other medical personnel to help.”

The Hope Center, a nonprofit, multi-tenant center was completed in December of 2009. The Foundation’s new website will include the most recent information about the 187,000 square foot building and the amenities offered to each tenant. Artistic renderings will be replaced with actual photographs of the new facility.

Dan Busby, President of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), said, “When I first learned of the plans for the Hope Center and the new facility in Plano, I was so excited for the expanded opportunities this will bring to many evangelical ministries.”  He continued, “ECFA strongly supports the creation of the Hope Center, and my prayer is that God will abundantly bless you as you model how believers can work together to increase our impact around the world.”

Mrs. Minnie Arnold Caruth is a children’s advocate and a political activist. She has received numerous awards and special recognitions including the Children’s Champion Award nomination, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in Education, Governor George W. Bush’s Outstanding Volunteer nomination, Representative Pete Sessions’ Education & Activist recognition; Dallas County’s Domestic Violence Task Force Certificate of Appreciation for Court Partnership Project, the Public Safety Award of Valley Ranch, Irving, Texas, and a Certificate of Appreciation for Dance Education Parents.  Mrs. Caruth is a former board member of The Family Place and a current board member of Park Cities Republican Women. She serves as a member of the National Peace Conference Steering Committee and has helped create Dallas County Court #11 for addressing family violence, along with playing an instrumental role in the passage of numerous bills in Austin, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

Hope Center Groundbreaking Ceremon

“The new Hope Center campus is designed to foster a relationship between independent Christian ministries so they can work together to share the love of Christ and better meet the needs of people .” said June Hunt, who is a chair of the Hope Center Foundation board.  “Having multiple ministries under one roof will develop better synergy, greater stewardship and wider global outreach among these biblically based ministries.”

The Hope Center will be located on the northeast corner of Plano Parkway and Custer Road in Plano, just one block north of The President George Bush Turnpike.  Designed by Good, Fulton & Farrell, the inviting campus will have a mountain lodge style building nestled inside a prayer garden, walking paths and acres of lush landscaping.  From materials to the layout, the campus is designed to minimize the environmental impact and blend with the area’s natural beauty.

From inception, The Hope Center committed itself to be an asset to the local community – to be a “good neighbor”.  By working closely with the city of Plano, the design team met all zoning requirements and did not request any variances.

“We’ve been impressed with the positive attitude of The Hope Center leadership and their willingness to conform to the City’s codes,” said Robert Miller, president of the Dallas North Estates Home Owners’ Association.  “They discussed their project with our board to avoid any issues and demonstrate how the neighborhood will benefit from the amenities that will be part of the campus.”

The 185,000 square foot retreat lodge and campus will include a conference center, worship center, atrium, Bible museum, cafe bookstore, broadcast studios, call center, health center, short run print shop and postal center for the tenants.  In addition, the conference rooms, integrated telephone system, fulfillment center and offices will be designed to minimize costs as well as maximize cooperation.

“The closest model for this campus is perhaps the Meadows Center in Dallas,” added Miss Hunt.  “In fact, Curtis Meadows was very helpful in the early planning for The Hope Center.  There are also a couple of smaller models in the Christian community, such as the Jericho Center in Colorado Springs.   But to our knowledge, there is not a multi-tenant, non-profit center like this anywhere in the nation.  We hope it will become a new model for other ministries to tailor to their needs.”

Hunt initially envisioned The Hope Center in 1992 but was focused on the mission of Hope for The Heart at the time.  She formed a 501c3 non-profit organization named The Hope Center Foundation for the express purpose of owning and operating The Hope Center.  The group began the search for either an existing property or a location upon which to build in late 2005. After an exhaustive search, they settled on the Plano location and began the process of land acquisition in mid-2007.  The Hope Center Foundation closed on the property in January of 2008.

“We are already receiving donations for the construction of the campus and will continue with a capital campaign through 2010,” noted Miss Hunt. “We have designed a beautiful campus that will be an asset to the community, but it won’t be opulent, lavish or extravagant.  The Hope Center Foundation will be a good example of stewardship in every aspect of our operation, including the expenditure of funds to build the campus.”
